 EL1 Cyber Security Engineer 

APS Classification: Executive Level 1

Group: Chief Information Officer

Hourly Rate Range: $130 - $150 per hour (inclusive of superannuation)

Security Clearance: NV1 Security clearance required

Location: Surrey Hills, Richmond, Geelong, Canberra

Response Due: Friday, 28th June 2024, COB

Contract Length: Initial 12-month contract with x2 12-month extensions (pending approval)

Work Arrangements: Hybrid working arrangements negotiable with a line manager. Minimum 3 days per week in the office with flexible arrangements for the remaining 2 days.

About the Team
The Chief Information Officer Division manages technology-related solutions within the agency, including ICT services and project delivery. The Protective and Cyber Security Branch oversees security across governance, information, personnel, physical, and cyber security. The Cyber Operations team identifies, responds to, and remediates security incidents across the organisation.
About the RoleAs an EL1 Cyber Security Platform Engineer, you will lead the development of complex cyber security technologies and processes with a focus on continual improvement. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders and the Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) to enhance security platforms and processes. Our agency adopts a cloud-first approach, requiring experience with Azure, M365, and AWS technologies.

  • Interpret business strategies and functional requirements to develop technologies enhancing the agency’s defensive posture.
  • Collaborate with internal project teams and stakeholders to deliver key cyber technologies.
  • Introduce and develop orchestration and automation technologies.
  • Design, develop, and implement detection mechanisms, algorithms, and search queries to proactively identify cyber threats.
  • Refine processes, methods, and technologies to enhance the agency’s cyber security posture.
  • Translate technologies into simple processes and mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain high-quality documentation, including architectural designs, Standard Operating Procedures, and Service Design packs.
  • Participate in procurement activities and provide specialist advice.

  • Sound stakeholder relationship skills.
