The Role

We are currently engaged with a leading retail group in Australia. who due to an impressive roadmap at optimizing their IT Systems, Infrastrcuture and Process are seeking a Technical Product Owner to join the team on an initital 12 month contract.

As a Technical Product Owner, you'll sit at the intersection of product strategy, retail operations, and technology delivery. You'll work closely with developers, architects, and business stakeholders to translate complex retail challenges into scalable, high-impact digital products across both Software and Harward which will be used by customers and staff alike.


Key Responsibilities

  • Define, prioritise, and refine the product backlog in collaboration with business stakeholders and engineering teams.

  • Translate retail business needs (e.g., merchandising, inventory, payments, loyalty) into technical user stories and acceptance criteria.

  • Partner with solution architects and developers to ensure scalability, performance, and security across all products.

  • Act as the voice of the customer and business in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews).

  • Monitor product performance and adoption metrics, feeding insights back into the roadmap.

  • Ensure integration of retail systems (POS, ERP, CRM, eCommerce, mobile apps) runs smoothly and supports omnichannel strategies.

  • Stay across emerging retail tech trends (AI in retail, self-checkout, digital signage, mobile payments) and feed innovation into product roadmaps.


What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst, or Product Manager in a retail or consumer-facing environment.

  • Strong understanding of retail systems (POS, eCommerce, supply chain, CRM, loyalty, payments).

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, business-focused communication.

  • Hands-on experience with backlog management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps).

  • Technical mindset - comfortable discussing APIs, integrations, data flows, and architecture considerations.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills - able to influence and align across multiple business units.
