EL1 Test Automation Engineer - Federal Government

We are seeking a highly skilled EL1 Test Automation Engineer to join a major Federal Government digital program. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-impact projects that deliver quality outcomes across a range of initiatives that support critical national services.

This is a senior position where you will exercise independence, apply strong problem-solving skills, and deliver testing solutions that ensure the delivery of high-quality systems and services.

Key Responsibilities

As an EL1 Test Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Conduct functional and automation test planning, preparation, and execution.

  • Design, write, and execute effective manual and automated test cases.

  • Create and maintain test data, and clearly document software defects.

  • Actively participate in requirements, analysis, and design phases to provide continuous quality feedback.

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members when required.

  • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation for test procedures.

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.

  • Apply automation design principles to optimise functional automation solutions across projects.


Technical Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone with:

  • Strong experience in automation design and frameworks.

  • Hands-on expertise with Playwright and Cucumber.

  • Demonstrated ability to discover, reproduce, and retest software defects.

  • Experience producing high-quality test documentation.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

  • Location: Canberra preferred (other locations may be considered).

  • Eligibility: Australian citizenship is mandatory as AGSVA Security Clearance will be required fo the role.

  • Remuneration: Competitive Hourly rates based on skills and experience.
