Job Description:
This program within Defence is seeking a skilled Senior Network Security Engineer to join the SEA2273 Sub-Program within the Warfighting Networks and Applications Support Organisation (WSO), ICT Delivery Division, Defence Digital Group. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the security and integrity of network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the design, build, development, and transition of Cyber solutions aligned with best practices and relevant governance and security frameworks.
- Lead design and build activities for firewalls, including automation and integration with established network designs using BGP and OSPF.
- Oversee design and build activities associated with Network Access Control (NAC).
- Integrate firewall and network security tools with monitoring toolsets, including SIEM.
- Proactively maintain and upgrade Cyber tools and technologies.
- Provide operational support to project teams for respective technologies.
- Author, review, and maintain documentation such as Solution Designs, Standard Operating Procedures, and As-Built-As-Configured artefacts.
- Collaborate with vendor/supplier specialists to optimize designs and achieve expected outcomes.
- Support Validation and Verification (V&V) activities.
- Identify and assess technical risks; collaborate with project stakeholders to provide mitigation options and inform project decisions.
- Proven experience working in Defence as a Senior Network Security Engineer.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of cyber-security controls aligned with zero-trust architecture principles.
- Experience in the following Cyber areas:
- Network Security (Firewalls, NAC)
- Security Monitoring
- Network Automation
- Logging and Auditing
- Proficiency in developing, building, and operating technical solutions using Fortinet, Ansible, and Cisco products.
- Strong knowledge of Nutanix, VMware, and hypervisor technologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Experience with Australian Defence Force deployed environments and their unique networking and security constraints.
- Knowledge of the following frameworks and standards:
- Australian Information Security Manual (ISM)
- US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
- Understanding of SEA2273 Minerva systems.
