Purpose of the Role
The Linux Technician supports the Fleet Information Environment (FIE) Modernisation Project, which delivers modern, cyber hardened ICT systems for the Royal Australian Navy. The role focuses on building, integrating, securing, and supporting Linux based system environments that underpin the mission systems across ships, submarines, and shore establishments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, build, and implement Linux operating systems.
- Integrate ICT infrastructure, applications, and tools with Linux OS.
- Analyse, track, and resolve complex Linux SOE and application issues.
- Implement hardening and cyber security measures for Linux servers.
- Create and maintain automated builds to improve efficiency.
- Research new technologies to support capability uplift.
- Develop and peer review SOPs, build guides, and technical documentation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience working in Defence as a Linux Technician.
- Strong experience with Linux servers in hyper converged and distributed environments.
- Technical capability with:
- Ansible
- GitLab
- YUM
- RHEL 7.x-9.x
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of SEA2273 Minerva systems.
- Understanding of ISM and Defence governance/security frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of cyber?security controls, zero?trust principles, and ADF deployed environments.
