Lead Cyber Security Advisor

12 month Contract with 2 x 12 month ext.

Are you someone who thrives on analysing complex systems and guiding security decisions that shape the resilience of critical ICT environments?

You'll be conducting risk assessments across a range of technologies from Azure Cloud to legacy systems and AI while working closely with technical teams and senior leadership to improve and protect essential services.

You'll focus on assessing the security of applications and systems against Australian government standards and frameworks, and advising on how to strengthen the organisation's security posture.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments of ICT systems and applications in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Provide guidance on system and application design to align with PSPF, ISM and Essential Eight requirements.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders and executive audiences.
  • Engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders on system risks and remediation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the overall security posture of the environment.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to implement solutions and ensure compliance with government security standards.

Required skills and experience

  • At least 5 years' experience conducting security risk assessments within a government environment.
  • Proven background assessing systems including Azure Cloud, legacy infrastructure, AI technologies, and complex architectures.
  • Strong understanding of networking infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate complex security issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience presenting assessments and recommendations to senior decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large workload, prioritise tasks, and work independently under pressure.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and producing clear, high-quality written reports.

Additional understanding of Operational Technologies will be an advantage.
