I'm recruiting for an experienced Deputy Chief Engineer to join a leading government-focused engineering program based in Canberra. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal technical leadership role, shaping innovative solutions across advanced ICT and cyber systems. Remote working arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
About the Role
You'll report into the Chief Engineer, the Deputy Chief Engineer operates at the interface between technical teams and program leadership. You will provide expert guidance on system architecture, lead cyber security operations, and oversee Test & Evaluation activities. The role also involves mentoring technical staff, advising on DevSecOps and release processes, and providing technical authority decisions under relevant frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide design and technical architecture guidance across complex ICT systems.
- Lead and manage cyber security operations and Test & Evaluation functions.
- Mentor junior technical personnel in DevSecOps, virtualization, containerization, and orchestration.
- Investigate and provide advice on technical and security incidents.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure secure, high-quality system releases.
- Drive continuous improvement in software development practices and cyber security posture.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree in Engineering (Software Engineering preferred), Computer Science, or IT.
- Certified SAFe® Practitioner (mandatory, can be completed post-engagement).
- Strong experience in Windows/Linux environments, virtualization, containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD/DevSecOps practices.
- Proficiency in network engineering, software-defined networking, and cyber security practices.
- Test and Evaluation management experience, including relevant tools (e.g., Zephyr Squad).
- Knowledge of ISM.
