Background:
Join the Office of Chief of Navy as part of the NMP 2113 EQoL Internet Rollout project, an initiative aimed at revolutionizing Quality of Life (QoL) systems across the entire Navy fleet. This project leverages the Starlink network to enhance ship-to-shore connectivity, enabling Navy personnel at sea to stay connected with their families, communities, and administrative resources.
As a Specialist Engineering - Communications Network Engineering (NV1), you will play a crucial role in refining and deploying the Enhanced Quality of Life (EQoL) systems, ensuring seamless and reliable internet access aboard Navy vessels.

Responsibilities:
- Design Refinement: Support the development of requirements and refine the design based on a 12-month sea-going trial.
- Hardware & Solutions: Identify and integrate hardware and solutions, including Fortigate and Cisco Catalyst.
- System Baseline: Design and establish the EQoL system baseline.
- Configuration & Testing: Configure and test equipment for deployment, including the Netscope Gateway.
- Installation Liaison: Coordinate with ship staff and SPOs for the installation and provide ongoing support.
- Documentation: Author comprehensive engineering documents such as:
- Cross Class Engineering Design Pack
- Class Specific Integration Design Pack
- Australian Navy Publications, Standard Operating Procedures
- Support Plan, Technical Maintenance Plan, and more.
- Engineering Support: Develop critical documentation including System Security Plan, Business Impact Level Assessment, Cyber Security Authorisation Plan, and more.
- Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
- Experience with Radius AAA
- Degree in ICT Networking or Communications Engineering
- Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) Enterprise
- Fortigate (Fortinet Certified Associate) or higher
- Formal Cybersecurity training
- In-depth knowledge and experience with switching mechanisms, routing protocols, and network troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in virtualization, SDN, Linux OS, and familiarity with open-source technologies.
- Basic understanding of Layer-3 packet encryption, load balancing, network aggregation, and network security.
- Ability to document network designs, lead project design reviews, and perform engineering assessments of complex networks.
