Network Engineer - Federal Government

We're seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join a high-performing Federal Government ICT team supporting a global, secure, and cloud-enabled network environment. This role offers the opportunity to work across a complex international network footprint, contributing to new digital initiatives while ensuring the reliability of critical infrastructure that connects offices around the world.

You'll play a key role in maintaining, supporting, and improving the agency's network operations, while contributing to ongoing cloud transformation projects and enhancements to network security and performance.

Key Responsibilities

As a Network Engineer, you will:

  • Provide Level 2 and 3 support and administration for a global network, including system monitoring, configuration, and fault response.

  • Install, configure, and maintain Cisco and Fortinet hardware and software platforms to support data centre networking, SD-WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi services.

  • Research and evaluate new hardware, software, and processes to enhance corporate communications infrastructure.

  • Deliver technical input to projects and identify opportunities for system and process improvements.

  • Manage network upgrades and ensure compliance with Information Security Manual (ISM) standards to maintain a Maturity Level 2 security posture.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including disaster recovery manuals and standard operating procedures.


Technical Skills & Experience

We're seeking candidates with:

  • Demonstrated experience with Fortinet, Cisco, and Azure networking services and products.

  • Practical knowledge of FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAuthenticator, and FortiAnalyzer.

  • Experience using SolarWinds or other enterprise network monitoring tools.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across global communications networks.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications standards and protocols including IP/TCP/UDP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, QoS/DSCP, and DMVPN/ADVPN.

  • Familiarity with SNMPv3, NetFlow, NBAR, AVC, and network performance management techniques.

  • Understanding of Public Key Cryptography, network authentication, and encryption protocols such as IPSec/IKE, 802.1x, RADIUS, TACACS+, SSL/TLS, and EAP.
