The Role
The Senior Machine Learning Scientist will lead the design and development of modern neural network models for on-device computer vision.
This is a greenfield role, where you will:
- Blank-slate build - No legacy ML constraints, just the opportunity to design the right solutions from day one.
- High-impact work - Directly shaping product capability and adoption in real-world environments.
- Broad application scope - Current deployments in commercial spaces, with potential to expand into consumer electronics, industrial automation, and security markets.
- Architect and train models from scratch to translate low-resolution data into accurate, production-ready outputs.
- Develop application-specific models (e.g., presence detection, object tracking) optimised for edge hardware.
- Establish the foundations for a scalable ML capability that will grow into a dedicated team.
Skills & Experience
- Advanced experience in ML for computer vision (PhD in ML/AI/Data Science).
- Proven ability to design and deploy models from scratch.
- Experience in startup or high-change R&D environments.
- Bonus: exposure to edge AI or embedded ML.
- ML/DL Frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow
- Computer Vision Tools: OpenCV
- Model Architectures: CNNs (convolutional neural networks)
- Programming: Python (primary), C/C++ (nice-to-have)
- Edge AI / Embedded Systems: MCUs with NPUs, Embedded Linux boards
- Deployment & Optimisation: ONNX, TensorRT, quantisation, pruning
Sydney-based candidates are preferred for close collaboration, though relocation will be considered for the right person.
