Responsibilities:
As an Oracle Database Administrator, you will support the establishment and ongoing management of infrastructure managed services for the client. Your responsibilities will include:
Service Establishment & Transition:
- Assist in gathering and reviewing information related to the implementation and operation of the client's existing Oracle database environments.
- Participate in workshops to understand existing Oracle platforms and prepare for database operations transition.
- Contribute to the creation of key database operations documentation (e.g., System Understanding Documents, Standard Operating Procedures).
- Support the team in ensuring readiness for database operations go-live in line with the service establishment plan and schedule.
Ongoing Database Administration & Operations:
- Perform routine Oracle DBA tasks, including:
- Monitoring and health checks
- Database backups
- Performance tuning and management
- Availability and capacity management
- Installation, configuration, and patching
- Routine administration and maintenance
- Resolving production and non-production incidents with minimal downtime or performance impact
- Managing backlog of database-related tickets and service requests
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for database platforms, processes, and procedures.
- Support efforts to align database operations with DevOps and Agile principles.
- Assist in automating database management and operational tasks.
- Collaborate with other DBAs and infrastructure teams (compute, storage, network, datacentre, and public cloud).
- Ensure security best practices are followed to meet federal government compliance standards.
- Stay updated with industry trends and technologies to contribute to continuous improvement and innovation.
- Provide input on current database platforms for public cloud migration projects.
- Knowledge of MSSQL database administration desirable, but not a requirement
- Manage junior DBA team members, including training, mentoring & scheduling
Qualifications:
- Around 5-6 years of experience in Oracle database administration, both on-premises and in public cloud (preferably Oracle Cloud or AWS RDS for Oracle).
- Proven experience in managing large-scale Oracle database environments, including high availability and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Data Guard, RAC, GoldenGate).
- Strong understanding of database security, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) and ITIL frameworks. ITIL v4 certification is preferred or must be obtained within 8 weeks of starting the role.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with experience in performance tuning and query optimization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
- Experience in scripting and automation for database management tasks is a plus (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Shell Scripting).
- Given the secure nature of this role, NV1 Security Clearance is required
